Qandeel Siddique very graciously responded to me by email, saying she believes the hadith comes from Tabrani´s Al-Mujam As-Saghir, writing “I don´t think it is a widely acknowledged hadith, partly because it comes from Tabrani´s lesser known works.”

I very much appreciate the pointer. Many thanks.

Do you have a reference for it?

I am reminded of the New Testament Q&A at Matthew 25.39-40:

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
